C: PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

The pupils have experienced hot and cold weather and can describe objects as hot, warm or cold.

D: PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Explain temperature.
  2. Identify an instrument used to measure temperature.
  3. Read temperature in degrees Celsius.
  4. Identify freezing and boiling points of water.
  5. Compare hot and cold temperatures.
  6. Solve simple problems involving temperature.

E: CONTENT

Meaning of Temperature

Temperature tells us how hot or cold something is.
🌡️ A thermometer is used to measure temperature.

Degree Celsius

Temperature is commonly measured in degrees Celsius (°C).
Examples:

  • 10°C is cold.
  • 25°C is warm.
  • 40°C is hot.

Freezing Point of Water

Water freezes at:

0°C

🧊 At 0°C, water can turn into ice.

Boiling Point of Water

Water boils at:

100°C

♨️ At 100°C, water changes into steam.

Comparing Temperatures

Example:
35°C is hotter than 20°C.
Therefore:

35°C > 20°C
