E: CONTENT

Meaning of Place Value

Place value is the value of a digit because of its position in a number.
Example:
In 458,326:

  • 4 = 400,000
  • 5 = 50,000
  • 8 = 8,000
  • 3 = 300
  • 2 = 20
  • 6 = 6

Place-Value Chart

Hundred Thousands Ten Thousands Thousands Hundreds Tens Units
4 5 8 3 2 6

Expanded Form

458,326 can be written as:

400,000 + 50,000 + 8,000 + 300 + 20 + 6

Decimal Place Values

A decimal point separates whole numbers from decimal parts.
Example:

4.375

  • 3 = tenths
  • 7 = hundredths
  • 5 = thousandths

📌 0.1 = one tenth
📌 0.01 = one hundredth
📌 0.001 = one thousandth
