E: CONTENT

Meaning of Waste Disposal

Waste disposal is the proper removal or treatment of unwanted materials.

Methods of Waste Disposal

Waste may be disposed of through:

Collection in waste bins.

Composting.

Controlled burning where appropriate and permitted.

Burial of suitable waste.

Collection by approved waste-disposal services.

Recycling.

Sewage Disposal

Sewage is waste water containing human or household waste.

It should be safely carried through proper sewage or sanitation systems.

Effects of Improper Waste Disposal

Improper waste disposal can:

Spread diseases.

Block drainage channels.

Cause flooding.

Produce bad smell.

Attract rats, flies and mosquitoes.

Pollute land and water.

Meaning of Reuse

Reuse means using an item again instead of throwing it away.

Examples:

Using an empty container for storage.

Using old newspapers for craft work.

Using a bottle again where it is safe to do so.

Meaning of Recycling

Recycling means processing used materials to make new products.
