E: CONTENT

Meaning of Decimal Fractions

A decimal fraction is a fraction written using a decimal point (.).
Examples:

  • 0.5
  • 0.7
  • 0.25
  • 0.75

Tenths

One tenth is written as:

1/10 = 0.1

Five tenths:

5/10 = 0.5

Hundredths

One hundredth is written as:

1/100 = 0.01

Twenty-five hundredths:

25/100 = 0.25

Place Value in Decimals

In 3.47:

Digit Place Value
3 Units
4 Tenths
7 Hundredths

Changing Fractions to Decimals

Examples:

3/10 = 0.3

45/100 = 0.45

Comparing Decimals

Examples:

0.8 > 0.5

0.25 < 0.60
