E: CONTENT

Meaning of Civic Values

Civic values are good behaviours and principles that help people become responsible members of society.

Examples of Civic Values

Examples include:

  • honesty
  • loyalty
  • obedience
  • cooperation
  • dedication
  • respect
  • hard work
  • tolerance

Honesty

Honesty means telling the truth and avoiding cheating or stealing. Example: If Ada finds a pencil that does not belong to her and returns it to the owner, she is showing honesty.

Loyalty

Loyalty means being faithful and supportive to one’s family, school, community and country.

Obedience

Obedience means following lawful rules and instructions.

Cooperation

Cooperation means working together with others to achieve a good result.

Importance of Civic Values

Civic values:

  1. Promote peace.
  2. Build trust.
  3. Encourage unity.
  4. Reduce wrongdoing.
  5. Promote development.
  6. Help people become responsible citizens.
