Meaning of a Poem

A poem is a piece of writing arranged in short lines.

Poems can teach us lessons and can also be enjoyable to read.

Simple Poem: Be Honest

Always tell the truth each day,

Do what is right in every way.

Do not take what is not yours,

Honesty opens many doors.

Rhyming Words

Rhyming words are words that have similar ending sounds.

Examples from the poem:

• day – way
• yours – doors

New Words

• truth – what is correct or real
• honesty – telling the truth and doing what is right
• right – good or correct
• yours – something that belongs to you

Lesson from the Poem

The poem teaches us to:

1. Tell the truth.
2. Do what is right.
3. Avoid taking things that do not belong to us.
4. Be honest at all times.

Another Simple Poem: Road Safety

Look to the left, look to the right,

Cross the road when all is right.

Use the crossing when you can,

Road safety is for every man.
