E: CONTENT

Meaning of Respect for National Symbols

Respect for national symbols means treating the special symbols of Nigeria properly and honourably.

Respecting the National Flag

We should:

  • handle the flag carefully;
  • avoid tearing it;
  • avoid throwing it on the ground;
  • behave properly during flag ceremonies.

Respecting the National Anthem

When the National Anthem is being performed, pupils should:

  1. Stand properly.
  2. Remain orderly.
  3. Avoid talking and playing.
  4. Participate respectfully when required.

Respecting the National Pledge

The National Pledge should be recited respectfully and sincerely.

Respecting the Coat of Arms

We should not:

  • damage pictures of the Coat of Arms;
  • draw carelessly over it;
  • misuse it.

Respecting Nigerian Currency

We should not:

  • tear currency notes;
  • write on them;
  • deliberately destroy them;
  • handle money carelessly.

Why We Respect National Symbols

Respect shows:

  • patriotism;
  • discipline;
  • national pride;
  • love for Nigeria.
