The pupils have seen many colours in their environment and previously
identified some colours while learning about the sense of sight.

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Explain the meaning of colour.
  2. Identify common colours.
  3. Name objects according to their colours.
  4. Identify colours of living things.
  5. Identify colours of non-living things.
  6. Colour familiar objects correctly.

E: CONTENT

Meaning of Colour

Colour is the appearance that helps us tell one
object from another by looking at it. We use our eyes to see
colours.

Common Colours

Examples include: 🔴 Red 🔵 Blue 🟡
Yellow 🟢 Green 🟠
Orange 🟣 Purple
BlackWhite 🟤
Brown

Colours of Familiar Objects

Examples: 🍅 Tomato — red. 🍌 Ripe banana — yellow. 🍊 Orange fruit —
orange. 🌿 Fresh leaf — usually green. ☁️ Cloud — may appear white or
grey.

Colours of Living Things

Living things can have different colours. Examples: 🌺 Flowers may be
red, yellow, white or purple. 🐦 Birds may have many colours. 🍃 Leaves
are commonly green.

Colours of Non-Living Things

Non-living things can also have different colours. Examples: 🚗 Cars
may be red, blue, white or black. 📘 Books may have different colours.
👕 Clothes may come in many colours.
