Meaning of Risk

A risk is something that may cause harm or danger.

Meaning of Risk Factors in Food

Risk factors in food are things that can make food unsafe or harmful to eat.

Safe Food

Safe food is:

  • clean;
  • properly cooked;
  • fresh;
  • covered;
  • handled with clean hands.

✅ Clean, fresh and properly prepared food is safer to eat.

Unsafe Food

Unsafe food may be:

  • dirty;
  • spoilt;
  • uncovered;
  • badly cooked;
  • handled with dirty hands.

❌ Dirty or spoilt food may make a person sick.

Why Unsafe Food Should Be Avoided

Unsafe food can cause:

  • stomach pain;
  • vomiting;
  • diarrhoea;
  • sickness.
