C: PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

The pupils have learnt about substances taken into the body, overdose, food, sources of food and ways of keeping food safe.

D: PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Mention substances taken into the body.
  2. State reasons for eating food and drinking water.
  3. Explain overdose in a simple way.
  4. Mention ways to prevent overdose.
  5. Identify sources of food.
  6. State ways of keeping food safe.

E: CONTENT

Revision of Substances Taken into the Body

Examples include:

  • food;
  • water;
  • drinks;
  • medicine.

Children should not swallow unknown substances.

Revision of Food and Water

Food helps us to:

  • grow;
  • get energy;
  • stay healthy.

💧 Water helps the body to remain healthy.

Revision of Overdose

Overdose means taking more of a substance than is safe or needed. Children should:

  • never take medicine by themselves;
  • never take another person’s medicine;
  • tell an adult if a medicine accident happens.

Revision of Food Sources

Food may come from: 🌱 Plants – yam, beans, maize and fruits. 🐟 Animals – fish, meat, eggs and milk. Food may also be obtained from farms, gardens and markets.

Revision of Food Safety

We should:

  1. Wash our hands before eating.
  2. Wash fruits before eating.
  3. Keep food covered.
  4. Use clean plates and spoons.
  5. Avoid spoilt food.
  6. Drink clean water.
