Example:

7 + 5 = 12

Using objects:

Using a Number Line

To solve:

6 + 4

Start at 6 and move 4 steps forward:

6 → 7 → 8 → 9 → 10

So:

6 + 4 = 10

Horizontal Addition

8 + 3 = 11

Vertical Addition

Adding Doubles

A double means adding the same number to itself.

4 + 4 = 8

5 + 5 = 10

6 + 6 = 12

Word Problem

Bola has 8 sweets. She gets 4 more.

8 + 4 = 12

Bola now has 12 sweets.
