E: CONTENT

Paragraph Development

A paragraph is a group of sentences that discuss one main idea.
A good composition usually has:

  1. Introduction
  2. Body
  3. Conclusion

Introductory Paragraph

The introduction begins the composition and tells the reader what the topic is about.
Topic:
My Favourite Teacher
Example:
My favourite teacher is Mrs. Okafor. She teaches English Studies in my school. I like her because she teaches us patiently and makes every lesson interesting.

Concluding Paragraph

The conclusion brings the composition to an end.
Example:
For these reasons, Mrs. Okafor remains my favourite teacher. I hope to become hardworking and kind like her.

Adjectives

An adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun.
Examples:

  • a tall boy
  • a beautiful girl
  • a red car
  • a large house
  • a kind teacher

Sentence:
The tall boy carried a heavy bag.
Adjectives: tall, heavy

Simple Poem

MY SCHOOL
My school is bright and neat,
A happy place where friends all meet.
We read, we write, we work each day,
And learn new things along the way.

Discussion

  1. What is the poem about?
  2. How is the school described?
  3. Mention two things pupils do in school.
  4. Which words rhyme in the poem?
