Meaning of Puberty

Puberty is the stage of growth when a child’s body begins to develop towards physical maturity.

It usually occurs during adolescence.

Changes During Puberty

Changes may occur in:

Body size.

Body shape.

Voice.

Skin.

Hair growth.

Emotions and feelings.

Different people may begin these changes at different ages.

Changes in Boys

Common changes include:

Increase in height.

Broader shoulders.

Growth of hair in the armpits and pubic region.

Growth of facial hair in some boys.

Voice becoming deeper.

Increased sweating.

Development of the reproductive organs.

Changes in Girls

Common changes include:

Increase in height.

Development of breasts.

Widening of the hips.

Responsible Parenthood
