Meaning of Population

Population is the total number of people living in a particular place at a given time.

Population and Housing

As population increases, more houses are needed. When the number of houses is not enough, housing problems may occur.

Meaning of Overcrowding

Overcrowding occurs when too many people live in a small space or house.

Causes of Housing Shortage

Housing shortage may be caused by:

  1. Rapid population growth.
  2. Migration to towns and cities.
  3. Poverty.
  4. High cost of building materials.
  5. Lack of land.
  6. Poor planning.
  7. Destruction caused by disasters.

Effects of Inadequate Housing

Inadequate housing may lead to:
