Meaning of Culture

Culture is the total way of life of a group of people. Culture includes:

  • Food
  • Dressing
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Festivals
  • Religion
  • Marriage customs
  • Greetings

Meaning of Cultural Diversity

Cultural diversity means having different cultures within the same society or country. Nigeria has many ethnic groups, such as:

  • Hausa
  • Yoruba
  • Igbo
  • Efik
  • Tiv
  • Edo
  • Ijaw
  • Ibibio
  • Nupe

These groups have different languages and customs.

Examples of Cultural Differences

Nigerians may differ in:

  1. Language.
  2. Traditional clothes.
  3. Types of food.
  4. Marriage customs.
  5. Festivals.
  6. Music and dance.
  7. Ways of greeting.

Meaning of Unity in Cultural Diversity

Unity in cultural diversity means that people from different cultural backgrounds live and work together peacefully. For example: 🤝 A Yoruba child and an Igbo child can be good friends. 🏫 Pupils from different ethnic groups can learn together in the same school.

Ways of Promoting Unity

We should:

  1. Respect other people’s cultures.

Importance of Unity in Diversity
