Vowel Sounds /e/ and /æ/

/e/ is heard in:

  • pen
  • bed
  • hen
  • ten

/æ/ is heard in:

  • bag
  • cat
  • map
  • man

Examples:

👜 bag – /æ/

Meaning of an Adverb

An adverb tells us more about a verb.

It may tell us how, when or where an action happens.

Examples:

  • Ada walked slowly.
  • The boy ran quickly.
  • We arrived early.
  • Come here.

Types of Adverbs

How?

  • quickly
  • slowly
  • carefully

When?

  • today
  • yesterday
  • early

Where?

  • here
  • outside
  • upstairs

Formal Letter

A formal letter is written to a person in an official position.

Examples include letters to:

  • the head teacher
  • a company manager
  • a government officer

Parts of a Formal Letter

  1. Writer’s address.
  2. Date.
  3. Receiver’s address.
  4. Salutation.
  5. Title.
  6. Body of the letter.
  7. Closing.
  8. Writer’s name.
