E: CONTENT

Meaning of Distribution of Natural Resources

Distribution of natural resources means the way natural resources are found in different parts of a country. Natural resources are not found equally in every part of Nigeria.

Major Natural Resources in Nigeria

Examples include:

  1. Crude oil.
  2. Natural gas.
  3. Coal.
  4. Tin.
  5. Limestone.
  6. Iron ore.
  7. Cocoa.
  8. Groundnut.
  9. Rubber.
  10. Oil palm.

Examples of Areas Where Resources Are Found

Some examples include:

  • Crude oil and natural gas are found mainly in parts of the Niger Delta.
  • Coal is associated with Enugu and nearby areas.
  • Tin is associated with Plateau State.
  • Limestone is found in several parts of Nigeria.
  • Cocoa is grown mainly in parts of southern Nigeria.
  • Groundnut is widely grown in northern Nigeria.
  • Oil palm is common in parts of southern Nigeria.

Importance of Natural Resources

Natural resources:

  1. Provide raw materials.
  2. Create jobs.
  3. Provide food.
  4. Generate income.
  5. Support industries.
  6. Promote national development.
  7. Provide export products.

Revision of Citizenship

Citizenship is the legal membership of a person in a country. A good citizen should be:

  • Honest.
  • Responsible.
  • Law-abiding.
  • Patriotic.

Revision of Government

The three levels of government are:

  1. Federal Government.
  2. State Government.
  3. Local Government.

The three arms are:

  1. Executive.
  2. Legislature.
  3. Judiciary.

Revision of Division of Labour

Division of labour means sharing a job into smaller tasks so that different workers perform different parts. It helps to:

  • Save time.
  • Increase production.
  • Encourage specialisation.

Revision of Savings

Savings means keeping part of one’s money for future use. Money may be saved:

  • In a bank.
  • In a savings box.
  • Through approved financial institutions.

Revision of Employment

Employment is work done to earn income. Unemployment is the condition of being able and willing to work but not having a job.

Revision of Conservation

Conservation means protecting and using natural resources carefully. Examples include:

  • Planting trees.
  • Preventing pollution.
  • Avoiding bush burning.
  • Protecting forests.
  • Avoiding waste.
