Meaning of Community
A community is a group of people living together in the same area.
Meaning of Community Leadership
Community leadership is the act of guiding, directing and helping people in a community. A person who guides the community is called a community leader.
Examples of Community Leaders
Community leaders include:
- traditional rulers
- village heads
- chiefs
- religious leaders
- youth leaders
- community development leaders
Examples of Traditional Rulers
Different parts of Nigeria use different titles. 👑 Oba – common among the Yoruba. 👑 Emir – common in many northern communities. 👑 Eze – common among the Igbo.
Duties of Community Leaders
Community leaders:
- Maintain peace.
- Settle disagreements.
- Encourage development.
- Represent the community.
- Protect community traditions.
- Encourage cooperation.
- Help maintain law and order.
