E: CONTENT

Meaning of Prevention

Prevention means taking steps to stop something harmful from happening or reduce the chance of it happening. We can help prevent many illnesses by keeping ourselves and our surroundings clean.

Washing Hands

Hands should be washed with soap and clean water: 🧼 Before eating. 🧼 After using the toilet. 🧼 After playing outside. 🧼 Before handling food.

Drinking Safe Water

People should drink water from safe sources. Where needed, water should be treated according to public-health guidance.

Eating Safe Food

Food should be:

  1. Properly cooked.
  2. Covered.
  3. Stored safely.
  4. Prepared with clean hands and utensils.

Keeping the Environment Clean

We should:

  • Dispose of refuse properly.
  • Clean drains.
  • Avoid littering.
  • Keep toilets clean.
  • Remove containers that collect stagnant water.

Preventing Malaria

Ways of reducing malaria risk include:

  1. Sleeping under an appropriate mosquito net.
  2. Removing stagnant water.
  3. Keeping surroundings clean.
  4. Using other approved mosquito-control measures under adult guidance.

Seeking Medical Help

People should seek appropriate medical care when symptoms are serious, unusual or do not improve.
