Revision of Food Nutrients

The major nutrients studied are:

  1. Carbohydrates.
  2. Proteins.
  3. Fats and oils.
  4. Vitamins.
  5. Minerals.
  6. Water.

Carbohydrates

Examples: 🍚 Rice 🌽 Maize 🍠 Yam 🌱 Cassava They mainly provide energy.

Proteins

Examples: 🫘 Beans 🐟 Fish 🥚 Eggs 🥩 Meat 🥛 Milk They help with growth and repair.

Fruits

Examples: 🍊 Orange 🥭 Mango 🍌 Banana 🍍 Pineapple Fruits provide vitamins and help protect the body.

Vegetables

Examples: 🍅 Tomato 🌶️ Pepper 🥬 Spinach 🫛 Okra They provide vitamins and minerals.

Fats and Oils

Examples:

  • Palm oil.
  • Groundnut oil.
  • Coconut oil.
  • Butter.

They provide energy and help keep the body warm.

Simple Classification

Grains: maize, rice, millet. Tubers: yam, cassava, potato. Plant proteins: beans, groundnuts, soya beans. Animal proteins: fish, meat, milk and eggs.
