The pupils have seen different shapes in their homes, classrooms and surroundings.

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Explain two-dimensional shapes in simple terms.
  2. Identify a circle, triangle, square and rectangle.
  3. Count the sides of simple shapes.
  4. Count the corners of simple shapes.
  5. Draw common two-dimensional shapes.

E: CONTENT

Meaning of Two-Dimensional Shapes

Two-dimensional shapes are flat shapes.
They have length and width.

Circle

⚪ Circle
A circle has:

  • no straight side
  • no corner

Examples:
🪙 coin
🍽️ plate

Triangle

🔺 Triangle
A triangle has:

  • 3 sides
  • 3 corners

Square

⬜ Square
A square has:

  • 4 equal sides
  • 4 corners

Rectangle

▭ Rectangle
A rectangle has:

  • 4 sides
  • 4 corners
  • two long sides and two short sides

Shapes Around Us

  • Clock – circle
  • Window – rectangle
  • Floor tile – square
  • Road sign – triangle

  1. Displays different shapes.
  2. Names each shape.
  3. Counts the sides and corners with pupils.
  4. Identifies shapes in classroom objects.
  5. Demonstrates how to draw simple shapes.
