C: PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

The pupils have learnt numbers up to 200, place value, ordering, comparison, fractions, addition and subtraction during the First Term.

D: PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Read and write numbers up to 200.
  2. Identify hundreds, tens and units.
  3. Compare and order numbers.
  4. Identify simple fractions.
  5. Add and subtract simple numbers.

E: CONTENT

Revision of Whole Numbers

Examples:

  • 125 – one hundred and twenty-five
  • 170 – one hundred and seventy
  • 200 – two hundred

Revision of Place Value

For 143:

  • 1 hundred = 100
  • 4 tens = 40
  • 3 units = 3

So:

143 = 100 + 40 + 3

Revision of Comparing Numbers

Examples:

  • 75 > 50
  • 45 < 62
  • 80 = 80

Revision of Fractions

  • ½ means one out of two equal parts.
  • ¼ means one out of four equal parts.
  • ¾ means three out of four equal parts.

Revision of Addition and Subtraction

24 + 13 = 37

46 − 22 = 24

F: LESSON PRESENTATION

F1: Teachers’ Activities

  1. Revises numbers up to 200.
  2. Revises hundreds, tens and units.
  3. Gives comparison exercises.
  4. Revises ½, ¼ and ¾.
  5. Revises simple addition and subtraction.
  6. Corrects pupils where necessary.

F2: Pupils’ Activities

  1. Read and write numbers.
  2. Identify place values.
  3. Compare numbers.
  4. Identify fractions.
  5. Solve addition and subtraction exercises.

G: CONCLUSION

The teacher revises the main topics taught during the First Term and corrects pupils where necessary.
The pupils are encouraged to practise basic number exercises at home.

H: EVALUATION GUIDE

Pupils should be able to answer the following questions:

  1. Write one hundred and fifty in figures.
  2. Write 126 in expanded form.
  3. Fill in the correct sign: 65 \_\_ 56.
  4. Find ½ of 8.
  5. Find: 23 + 14.
  6. Find: 48 − 25.
  7. What is the value of 5 in 152?
