E: CONTENT

Use of “A” and “An”

We use a and an before one person, animal or thing.

Use of “A”

We use a before words that begin with a consonant sound.

Examples:

  • a boy 👦
  • a cat 🐈
  • a dog 🐕
  • a book 📘
  • a pen 🖊️

Sentences:

  • This is a book.
  • I have a pen.
  • She has a bag.

Use of “An”

We use an before words that begin with a vowel sound.

Examples:

  • an apple 🍎
  • an egg 🥚
  • an orange 🍊
  • an ant 🐜
  • an umbrella ☂️

Sentences:

  • This is an apple.
  • I saw an ant.
  • She has an umbrella.

Reading Fluency

Reading fluency means reading words and sentences smoothly and clearly.

Pupils should read:

  • I have a book.
  • This is an orange.
  • Ada has a bag.
  • Tunde saw an ant.
  • The boy has a pen.

Simple Reading Passage

Ada and Her Bag

Ada has a red bag. There is a book, an orange and an apple in the bag. She takes the bag to school every day.

Questions

  1. Who has a red bag?
  2. What colour is the bag?
  3. Mention two things inside the bag.
  4. Where does Ada take the bag?

F: LESSON PRESENTATION

F1: Teachers’ Activities

  1. Revises simple words with the pupils.
