Meaning of Culture

Culture is the way of life of a people. It includes how people:

• speak;
• dress;
• eat;
• greet;
• dance;
• celebrate.

Examples of Culture

Language

People speak different languages. Examples in Nigeria include:

• Igbo;
• Hausa;
• Yoruba;
• Efik;
• Tiv.

Dressing

Different groups have special traditional clothes. 👕👗 People may wear traditional clothes during festivals, weddings and ceremonies.

Food

Different communities have different local foods. Examples:

• pounded yam;
• jollof rice;
• tuwo;
• amala;
• moi-moi.

Greetings

People greet in different ways. We should greet elders politely.

Festivals

Communities have special celebrations and festivals.
