E: CONTENT

Meaning of Water Contamination

Water contamination means making water dirty and unsafe. Dirty water may contain harmful substances.

How Water Becomes Contaminated

Water can become dirty when:

  1. Refuse is thrown into it.
  2. Human waste enters it.
  3. Animal waste enters it.
  4. Dirty containers are used to collect it.
  5. Oil or chemicals enter it.

Refuse in Water

🗑️ + 💧 = dirty water We should not throw rubbish into rivers, streams or wells.

Dirty Containers

Water kept in a dirty bucket or cup can become unsafe.

Protecting Water Sources

We should:

  1. Keep wells covered.
  2. Keep water containers clean.
  3. Avoid throwing waste into water.
  4. Keep animals away from drinking-water sources.
